The Evolution of The Roxy Theater
The Roxy Theater was originally known as the Peekin Theater which was built in 1925. It was initially constructed as a Vaudeville style playhouse, but immediately became a movie theater showing major motion pictures for it’s first couple of decades of life. Its name, the Peekin Theater, was changed to the Roxy Theater in the year 1930 after it was sold to new owners. For quite a few years into the 1940’s, the Roxy was the top place to watch a major motion picture in downtown Longview before closing due to declining ticket sales after WWII. Through the next several decades the theater was used for a variety of purposes including a church, furniture store and a string of restaurants as well as a nightclub.
The Roxy was completely renovated back into a theater-style building in 2018, and now serves as a premier event venue for medium size events as well as home to Renewal City Church and Keebler Coffee Roasters.
